One way I often use this is to send screenshots to my Mac which I can then right-click on in Yoink’s shelf to access the Services menu where I have a custom Service for uploading images to the MacStories CDN. The iOS version of Yoink has made the Mac version more powerful too by allowing me to use Handoff to move files and images quickly from my iPhone or iPad to my Mac. Once files are in Yoink, I can drag them to another destination or lock them in place so I can drag them off Yoink’s shelf and into multiple email messages for instance. That eliminates what would otherwise be a lot of long drags across my 27-inch display. I’ve got the app set up to display its drop zone close to the pointer as I drag a file instead of the left or right edge of the screen. Yoink is a temporary parking spot for files, text, and images. Alfred also takes me directly to certain Club MacStories documents in Google Docs and to the archive of back issues of the MacStories Weekly and Monthly Log newsletters, removing a little bit of friction from my workflow every day. With a few keystrokes, I can find a file I send to people almost every week and send it to Yoink where it’s ready to be dragged into an email message. Another action I use all the time works with Yoink, another of my must-have apps. More recently, I’ve begun to use Alfred to kick off Automator workflows like one I made to automate several steps required to create a contract from a template, populate a couple of fields in it, and move the file to a specific folder. Text snippets in Alfred are not as powerful as an app like TextExpander, but I don’t use many snippets, which makes Alfred a worthy alternative. Next, I began using Alfred’s snippet feature and clipboard history. At first, I put together simple workflows to do things like search MacStories. Things really began to click with Alfred this year as I spent more and more time on my Mac. For a long time, I used Alfred almost exclusively as an app launcher. At this point, I am virtually lost on a Mac without Alfred. While iOS utilities are usually self-contained bits of functionality with limited effect on the system and other apps, many of my Mac utilities fundamentally change the way I use my computer on a system level.Īlfred. I use lots of utilities on iOS too, but the difference is in the kind of utilities I use. I guess that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. When I went through the apps on my Mac to decide which are must-haves, I realized that I use more utilities than I thought. A set amount of gold is provided to the player at the beginning of each level, and enemies killed provide the player with a gold bounty, allowing him to build more towers as the battle progresses. Towers are constructed using gold as the currency. If a set amount of enemies successfully pass through the defenses, the player loses. Such operations involve constructing towers that weather wave after wave of enemy assaults, with the goal of preventing any enemies from breaking through the defenses and going past the exit. The player, who acts as Vez'nan's general in the game, is responsible for the combat operations of Vez'nan's dark army. This game is in many ways similar to the previous games in the Kingdom Rush installments. only to reveal that a much deeper, darker evil lies within the former Denas' castle. Denas is defeated, and Vez'nan completes his invasion. After isolating King Denas from his major allies Alleria Swiftwind, Magnus Spellbane, and Gerald Lightseeker, Vez'nan proceeds to invade his castle, himself playing an active role in the battle for the castle alongside the player. The two take down major kingdom locations also featured in the original Kingdom Rush, including Silveroak Forest and Otil Farmlands. Lastly, Vez'nan proceeds to invade the grasslands that comprise Denas's territory. Eventually the player prevails and defeats Arkuz, encasing him in a sculpture of ice, and completing the penultimate step in Vez'nan's invasion. Then the army is split, trapped on multiple ice floes, and then it is hit by a blizzard as it makes its way to corner Arkuz, the king in the north. There, multiple awful situations befall the force, with firstly the north inhabitants being alerted to the dark army's presence. Instead of working their way through Stormcloud Temple like in the original Kingdom Rush, Vez'nan's force takes a detour and proceeds to the frozen north. The dark lord secures the funds needed to continue his campaign by capturing the immeasurable amounts of gold stored beneath the defeated king's throne. Although they meet multiple attempts at resistance, they eventually manage to corner Bolgur, the dwarven king, where he attempts a last stand, although it is in vain. With his army in tow, Vez'nan and the general begin invading the dwarven lands. Vez'nan then begins his plans for dominating the kingdom, starting with one of the kingdom's closest allies, the dwarves. Appointing the player as his general, both of them then proceed to liberate the tower and kill every human worker within. The tale begins as Vez'nan the dark lord escapes his fiery prison only to find his tower invaded by King Denas' human henchmen. and this time he's the one with the initiative!
If your application needs 10GB of data in memory on Intel it will need 10GB of data in memory on Apple Silicon. Even if you run out of RAM and start swapping to SSDs, Apple Silicon Macs have super-fast SSDs so that might not be the catastrophe that it would have been on Intel.īUT- even the fast SSD on AS Macs is still an order of magnitude slower than RAM, so if you run low on RAM your processor is being throttled by lack of data - so the question is, are you happy with your shiny new Mac being faster than your old Intel Mac, or do you want it to run to its full potential?Īpple Silicon is almost certainly more efficient in its RAM usage but "8GB=16GB" as a general claim is just nonsense. That's offset by Apple Silicon Macs being all-round faster than Intel Macs - dramatically so if the media/neural engines come into play. Mostly the effect of running low on RAM will be that things slow down. There's also the question pf what you mean by "enough RAM". storing the executable code is only one aspect of memory usage. Anyhow, we're back in the same boat now as many apps are again shipping as "universal binaries" containing both ARM64 and x86-64 code.Īnyway, in an age when we're slinging around 220ppi high-DPI images, 128k sound samples, 4k video, frame buffers for 5k screens, huge AI training data sets etc. Haven’t yet run into any memory issues.Ĭlick to 's not clear if that changed the RAM requirements or just saved disc space (I doubt that the Intel code ever got loaded on a PPC machine, or vice versa). I have an 8GB M2 Air and I regularly push it to play games, record and master audio, and occasionally archive and encode video. They never had that with Intel, they just had to take whatever Intel had on the shelf and make do. Moving to their own silicon meant they could once again highly optimize the code base because, like in the AIM days, the CPUs are made only for the Macintosh. Long story short Apple had to take a much less optimized approach to coding OSX during the Intel phase to accommodate CISC execution. PPC was also a RISC based design, so the code was smaller. In order to save multiple gigabytes of hard drive space there was a utility around at the time of OSX Leopard that would strip the Intel code from binaries if you had a PowerPC machine, which made them up to 2/3rd smaller in my experience. I had both an iBook G4 and a brand new Core Duo Mac Mini at the time and the Mini suffered from slowdowns and beach balls a lot more frequently than my trusty Book did. Not everyone here will remember this but when Apple switched to Intel they carried over the 512MB of memory base model machines came with, and it simply wasn’t enough for Intel versions of OSX. The number of functions the CPU can perform are reduced but the ones that are present are considerably faster.Īnd the second is code bloat. One is ARM processors run a RISC instruction set instead of CISC. Peace.Ī lot of folks think Apple are just being cheap, and I don’t disagree, it’s not like it costs that much more in parts costs to equip these machines with 16GB instead of 8GB, especially given what they charge for even the cheapest of their machines.īut there is technical merit to the “more efficient” claim for two reasons. Didn't keep my 2019 that long because of the transition and massive improvements to heat and battery life, but I plan to keep my upcoming MBP M3 Max for about that long!Īnyway, just thought that was interesting. Heck, I'm a professional and I kept my maxed out 2012 retina MBP for nearly 7 years. You can't tell me this 8GB system won't be crawling when it gets macOS 20 in six years! And a lot of regular people keep their computer that long or longer. For normal users, it will significantly shorten the usable lifespan of their computer with regard to future OS updates. And while it will work, evidence has shown that more memory helps, especially in AI applications for loading the model into memory, not to mention other applications like video rendering, etc. 8GB still isn't enough for a professional user if they ever plan to do more than one thing at a time. While I wouldn't recommend 8GB even to my grandfather, it's still interesting that there is something real and tangible to this whole story, as evidenced above. Memory compression goes a long way, and having unified memory can really help out apps like this that can be so GPU intensive doing AI stuff. So it seems like there is some real world evidence for this argument, although I feel like 12GB is probably closer to the real answer, and I thought as much when that story came out. This seems accurate to me, although I think kids will keep playing with it past the age of 5. The recommended age for this toy is 1-5 years. ***2021/2022 Editors Notes*** The Mega Bloks Dump truck pictured above has gone through a redesign – which can be expected after 5 years! The basic design and function is almost identical – but the color scheme and a few other minor things have changed! So, please enjoy this updated Mega Bloks Dump Truck Review! It has been through many wrecks and had many fictitious adventures, but it still remains a favorite in my house. Two years later and that dump truck still see a lot of action. My wife and I knew there was no way we were leaving the store without that being his Easter gift! He got so excited, probably because it combined a truck and buildings blocks. We were expecting to buy him some type of block set, but instead we ended up with the Mega Bloks Building Kit Dump Truck (I think the official name is the Mega Bloks CXN67 First Builders Dump Truck Set Building Kit – but I’m not typing that multiple times).Īs soon as my son laid eyes on it you could tell he really wanted it. He was still young and Easter was coming up, so my wife and I wanted to buy him an Easter gift. One of my son’s favorite toys was one we weren’t expecting to buy for them. One of the really neat things about being a parent that no one tells you about is that you can look at your child’s toys, or clothes, or artwork and have sentimental feelings come rushing back to you. This is my son’s fully loaded dump truck! The chain is trying to create some wiggle room for friendliness among the Publixes and Walmarts of the grocery world. Piggly Wiggly prides itself on treating customers with politeness and courtesy. The chain embarked on its first national TV ad campaign in 1997, playing up its rural, small-town identity. Piggly Wiggly's famous mascot is a pig donning a butcher's hat. Today, Piggly Wiggly has around 500 storefronts in 17 states, mostly in the South. The chain wasn't able to maintain its dominance for long, and other big chains started buying out Piggly Wiggly stores. By 1923, Piggly Wiggly was the third-largest retail grocer in the US. Piggly Wiggly grew quickly and was in every region of the US by the end of 1918. Self-service grocery shopping meant consumers could make decisions about what they wanted to buy, leading to the origin of branding. The chain was also one of the first to create TV commercials that clamored for customers' attention to purchase their goods. Piggly Wiggly rolled out the first shopping cart in 1937. The self-service concept brought shopping baskets, employee uniforms, and prices labeled on every item. The store offered more than 1,000 different products, four times as many as traditional stores at the time. The self-service concept was so new that Saunders had to advertise the idea in newspapers before opening the first store in 1916. Saunders believed that if customers could pick their own groceries, it would be a cheaper way to run a store and pass on savings to customers. Saunders noticed that the cost of groceries was high due to the number of employees needed to fulfill customer orders. Clarence Saunders, a Memphis businessman, came up with the idea for self-service grocery stores in 1916. Piggly Wiggly was the first self-service grocery store, revolutionizing the way we shop for food. Music is deeply ingrained in our daily lives, but so is modern self-service grocery stores. A company with a low turnover rate can improve productivity and encourage a culture of trust. Most companies experience some staff turnover costs, but when a company has a high turnover rate, it can harm the business' net profit. Turnover cost is the expense of replacing people who leave an organization during a specified period. The values vary from industry to industry.View more jobs on Indeed View More What is turnover cost? The employee turnover rate allows us to assess the state of a company from the team's perspective and act when something starts going wrong.Īs for the specific values of the employee turnover rate, it's not really possible to specify when it universally gets bad. So, why is it important? In simplest terms - you most likely don't want your staff to leave the company in groups. When calculating the staff turnover rate, the workers who leave are those who resign, retire or are laid off. Similarly, if an employee starts a long-term but temporary leave, for example, maternity leave or a sabbatical, they should not be counted, as they don't truly leave the company. Importantly, when calculating employee turnover rate, you usually don't take into account inter-company movement - the metric concerns members of staff who leave the company for good, so promotions and transfers should not be counted. It's typically calculated on a monthly or yearly basis, but in practice, you can use whatever frequency fits you best. Employee turnover rate is a metric that tells you the percentage of staff members who left the company over a period of time. Turnover is, in essence, the act of replacing one employee with another. Turnover rate is a metric used by Human Resources (HR), used to monitor the value of various HR initiatives undertaken by a company. Finally, you need to hide or remove the original grand total. The toppings were simple, lettuce, tomato, and caramelized onion. The giant chicken breast was tender, flavorful, and so juicy. And let me tell you, this might be one of my favorite entrees we ordered. My friend ordered the Chicky Sandwich, and I took a couple bites of it. I am not someone who typically orders chicken sandwiches at a restaurant. The house-made chili is savory and has deep flavors and combined with the hot dog and bacon this combination is a savory food lover’s dream. I decided to go with the The Chili Cheese Dog. So, we also decided to start with a side of the house-made chips with their house-made honey mustard and blue cheese dips.
